On Land & Water

25 July 09

Palfinger Marine CranesPalfinger NZ not only supply truck mounted cranes to the New Zealand Market, they are also the predominant knuckle-boom marine crane supplier to the New Zealand market covering  a wide variety of industries from the Navy to aquaculture and the commercial fishing industry.

“Palfinger Systems manufacture Palfinger marine cranes from 2.3 metre/tonne right up to 100 metre/tonne in both fresh water and full marine versions” says Palfinger NZ’s Duncan Phillips.

“There was a time that you could nearly guarantee a crane fitted to the mussel barge was a second-hand truck crane, already nearing the end of it’s life.  However, the Knuckleboom Aquaculture Industry in New Zealand has developed a lot over the last 15 years and since 1994 there have been hundreds of new marine cranes supplied to the more discerning New Zealand customers, from Northland to Bluff.

Palfinger in New Zealand have had a long association with the aquaculture and marine industry in New Zealand and are proud to be proven the preferred supplier to this market.

Tail Lifts Prove Popular

21 July 09

MBB Palfinger Tail LiftsThe new MBB PALFINGER range has proven very popular says PALFINGER NZ national manager Duncan Phillips.

“We’re only 2 months down the track on the official release, in a market that should be depressed, yet we’re seeing rapid recognition and adoption of the superior MBB Palfinger product” says Phillips.

Phillips is confident MBB Palfinger tail lifts will be as synonymous on NZ roads as the Palfinger Crane products, the orange/red cousins seen on the back of many trucks throughout the country.

“MBB Palfinger is a great product with superior features, it’s lighter, has great safety attributes, but the biggest thing for many clients is the flat aluminium platform. With all the performance and safety requirements met, it is this perfect traveling billboard that operators are utilizing for the promotion of their businesses .”

MBB PALFINGER is available now from PALFINGER New Zealand.

Powering Up with Palfinger

10 May 09

ILS Crew & Palfinger are up to the challenge.Four new Palfinger cranes in the Independent Line Services fleet are proving invaluable tools when it comes to keeping the electricity network in Canterbury running.

Independent Line Services is a power line construction and maintenance company working in the Canterbury area with the fault response contract for Banks Peninsula. When the lights go out these boys have to respond and repair in quick time, no matter what the conditions or terrain. They need their gear to work first time, every time and to be able to operate at the limits of its capabilities for prolonged periods.

Managing director Matt Southorn says performance and reliability are the keys in his industry and the Palfinger cranes have these attributes in bucket loads.

Independent Line Services has used Palfinger cranes since it began operations in 1995, originally running a second-hand Isuzu truck and Palfinger 7000A. Today it owns five Palfinger cranes, including two PK10000s, a PK11502 and a PK16502. "And we still have the old original 7000A - we just can't part with it."

Matt says while these cranes aren't huge, they are exactly suited to the task of building power lines. Their lighter weight means more payload and smaller trucks, which is a huge plus when it comes to accessing difficult sites.

The cranes have been rear mounted to three new Hino FGs (two of them double cab) and one 4x4 Hino GT.

Matt says he looked at a wide variety of cranes from opposition companies before settling on Palfinger. "We had a history with Palfinger and our guys knew them and trusted them. They like the smoothness of operation and reliability - they do what they say they're going to do and the combination of the new Hinos means the boys feel like they have a Rolls Royce line truck."

All the cranes have been fitted with radio remote control which means the operator is always in the "best and safest position" when working around the live power network. "After the performance and service we have had from Palfinger it would be a big call to change brands now," Matt says.

The cranes have been fitted to the trucks by transport engineering company Seaview Custom Engineering Ltd in Christchurch in conjunction with the building of the specialist truck bodies required for lines work.
