Palfinger Launches New High Performance Crane

17 July 10

The new PK3002EH crane sets new standards in the 30-metre-tonne range, delivering compact and lightweight design, combined with a substantial lifting capacity increase over its predecessor.

Palfinger National Manager Duncan Phillips says the new crane will replace the well established PK32080 crane that has been well accepted and proven in the NZ market for over the last 10 years.

“The new cranes will deliver an exceptional cost to performance ratio. Packed with superior features they will advance operational performance at no additional cost. A much higher lift capacity coupled with a lighter tare weight is a major advantage” says Duncan.

“A double-link boom system will give greater power ‘in close’ and superior performance at height which is a major advantage in a wide range of craning situations and conditions. The new ‘Power Link Plus’ gives a 15 degree reverse articulation of the outer boom which means better access under doorways and a much easier operation in low overhead areas.

Greaseless extension booms will reduce maintenance requirements and our proven Palfinger radio remote control is standard equipment. The cranes very simple mounting system and low-width makes installation easy while increasing the load volume – putting the new cranes into a class by of their own.

Duncan says that there has been strong interest from the craning industry with stock arriving currently in New Zealand.

The PK33002-EH complies with the OSH ACOP (approved code of practice) for cranes.

Reefton Crane Hire’s Latest Generation Palfinger

12 April 10

The West Coast’s Reefton Crane Hire has taken delivery of the latest generation extra high performance crane from PALFINGER New Zealand.

The PK50002-EH crane commissioned by Reefton Crane Hire is the first of a new generation of large extra high performance (EH) cranes to go into service in New Zealand.

Based at Reefton, situated in-land between Westport and Greymouth, Reefton Crane Hire specialises in professional craneage, cartage and construction to local industry.

Reefton Crane Hire’s Peter Jopson says precision is a major benefit of the new PALFINGER crane.

“The fine level of precision is excellent and vitally essential in much of the work we undertake” says Peter. “When you are handling 110KV of live power line, for example, accuracy and the right equipment is critical.”

“We’re a strong advocate for PALFINGER after great experiences with the product over the years. It is also the great level of local support with a PALFINGER service agent right here on the coast” adds Peter.

The new PK50002-EH crane is a milestone in crane development says PALFINGER South Island territory manager Dave Carr.

“Its innovative and user-friendly design, high payload and enormous hydraulic outreach will provide all-round benefits and capacity for Reefton Crane Hire and their clients. Its double slewing drive enables a large slewing torque and very precise crane movement.”

“These attributes are extremely advantageous for work in challenging, rough or compact environments. In this case it also means Reefton Crane Hire have a crane that has great capacity and is multi-dimensional in terms of the lifting environments it can perform in for their clients” says Dave.

The addition of a PALFINGER fly-jib and rope winch adds another dimension to the reach and functionality of the crane.

“It has a reach of 16.4m in crane mode, and with the fly-jib extension that increases to 30m. Without the fly-jib capacity at 6 metres is 7000kg and at 16.4 metres 2300kg. With the fly jib at 30m it will lift 440kg”.

The new crane adds to Reefton Crane Hire’s existing PALFINGER equipment with three other Palfinger cranes already on active duty.

Palfinger’s Platform for Success

10 September 09

The recently released MBB Palfinger tail lifts have proven popular with operators who are looking to streamline their transport tasks.

When Mitch McLachlan started looking to purchase a new vehicle to operate on his Courier Post contract he knew he needed a unit that had proven reliability. The demands on the vehicle and equipment were going to be unrelenting with the truck running 24 hours. This includes double-shifts between Wellington and Palmerston North with multiple stop-offs.

Over the years Mitch has operated 3 different brands of tail-lifts on his trucks. Standing out in reliability and service support was the Palfinger tail lift. He also noted that one of his trucks had a body built by Ellingham engineering (now HT Engineering) which had shown amazing durability and performed well in his operation. So Mitch went with the experience and decided to approach HT Engineering of Napier to build his new unit.

Mitch was impressed with the attitude of H T Engineering in listening to his ideas and coming up with workable & tailored solutions to suit his needs.

“The reliability of our truck and equipment is mission critical” says Mitch. “When you consider we deliver the mail in sizeable air-cargo-cans between both cities and plane deadlines are non-negotiable, we simply can’t afford to take chances. HT Engineering and Palfinger have delivered us a complete solution that will meet these demands head-on.”

The MBB Palfinger 2000 kg tail-lift in this operation will go up and down 12 times a day every-day so reliability was a key factor in his decision making. So there was no surprise in the fact that Mitch demanded gear he could rely on.

“The speed of the tail-lift operation was also important to us as the total unit can be unloaded and loaded within 20 minutes. Time is money and with immovable deadlines these features become even more important. The planes won’t wait” said Mitch.

Another major reason for MBB Palfinger’s popularity is the clean finish of the platform says Palfinger NZ’s Duncan Phillips. “This platform not only enhances the overall look of the vehicle, the aluminium construction reduces overall vehicle weight while never compromising on strength and durability.”

“MBB Palfinger is a great product with superior features, it’s lighter, has great safety attributes, but the biggest thing for many clients is the platform. With all the performance and safety requirements met, it is this perfect traveling billboard that operators are embracing for the promotion of their business.”
